Music
Simon Geschwindt plays saxophone, drums, vibraphone and marimba. He played in various bands and for agencies around London in the early 1970s, and in the Netherlands in the late-70s early-80s, where he worked in a song-writing partnership with flautist and pianist, Floor Minnaert (www.floorminnaert.nl) for Polydor in Hilversum. Two of their songs became major hits. He also headed up the Dutch Latin-Rock group The Why on vocals and vibraphone. After a long break raising his five children and pursuing a career in journalism, he now plays and teaches saxophone and music theory in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The only theory you learn is that which moves you more quickly towards your goal – playing! If you want qualifications, that's fine. Simon covers grades1-8 jazz at Trinity Guildhall, London. The same applies to exams in music theory. Learn how to play non-western music, eg, Spanish, African. Home recording: hear yourself as you progress. Learn how to record your own repertoire. Learn how to write your own songs.

CHARITY EVENTS Simon plays for free at some school and charity events (see repertoire below). All he asks is that he pass round the hat for his own favourite charity – currently the mountain gorillas of Virunga national park, Eastern Congo, caught up in the war there (http://www.virungacrisis.org/ and http://gorillacd.org/).
